When you're an artist...seems like everything is perpetually a work in progress.
A friend of mine recently alerted me to this quote by Saint Francis of Assisi (coincidentally my mother's patron saint): "He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist."
I suspect whether I am a laborer, craftsperson, or artist, depends always on the individual activity. With this painting, however, I am certainly an artist. Seattle is my home and my love. My heart is brimming with joy as I paint my favorite familiar places- not in the way that one might ever capture them with a camera (as they are somewhat out of order and definitely out of proportion). But, in the way that I always hold them in my heart.
